This is one of the toughest decisions you make as an adoptee. It's downright terrifying too. Entrust this person with your personal information, your life story...you're completely vulnerable and then provide a deposit to this complete stranger to search for members of your biological family. You're thinking you're completely insane right?! I know I did. But I did a ton of research and it didn't hurt either that she was highly recommended by my social worker who placed me with my folks back in the late 70's. I knew in my heart Victoria Mikoch was the one. I've wanted to search for my bio-fam for many, many years. However my case was different, my docs were sealed within the court system and the only way I could open them is if the bio-mom did so herself. That is until I learned about what a confidential intermediary was...Victoria is a PI with a special license that can view court documents, retrieve identifiable info from these docs and then contact the parties involved to see if they're interested in waiving their right to keep their info confidential so they can meet up with their lost party. I had no idea this was possible, but alas it is. After almost a year of searching from the info released by the courts through an affidavit and with all she was able to dig up. I'm talking huge lengthy and really in depth detective work; Ms. Mikoch unearthed some pretty amazing, beautiful, sad, troubling but pretty exciting information. I went through a roller coaster..but it was all there and she found it! She found both bio-parents, half siblings, aunts, uncles. And they all agreed to speak with me. It gave me so much closure. I'm still in contact with everyone today and my family--my folks are thrilled and have since met or spoke with this new side of our extended family we didn't know before. Victoria is absolutely extraordinary. I love her with all my heart and I know that's weird sounding but I went through a lot with her. She never gave up and she did an amazing job. She worked with me through a lot and I'm so truly grateful to her. And so is my family. I'd recommend her to anyone. My search was brutal, there wasn't much to go on but Victoria unearthed it all. She was so funny too, in the end she affectionately called my file "war and peace"....so true!! She was extremely professional too and respected everyone's privacy. I swear she was born to do this line of work, she's just got that gift.
