I had a scary threatening experience at The Spy Store, Inc. by the owner, Bob Leonard. A day after purchasing a security device I went back to The Spy Store, Inc. at 224 W. 4th St., NYC, NY to ask for a refund. Although the device clearly was in the box it came in, never had been used plus I had the cash receipt, Mr. Leonard refused to give me my money back. The device was five times what it was priced at elsewhere, for instance if it was $500 he sold it to me for $1,000.00! Clearly the biggest RIP OFF ever! He not only cursed at me but threatened to get in touch with some New York City Policemen whom he has done business with to have them hurt me in some way if I in any way wrote about this wrongdoing inflicted upon me by him. Not only did Mr. Leonard yell at me using horrific language that people came out looking to see what the commotion was all about but he left me absolutely devastated and hysterical. Bought 2 surveillance cameras. I made it clear that I needed alerts to my I-phone if somebody came into my home and that I needed to be able to download the recordings. I bought 2 cameras for a total of 951 USD. I spent 2 days setting them up: one of them didn't work, and the other one had no manual; only a disc that didn't fit into an ordinary CD/DVD computer drive, so I had to find the manual online, but it was so backwards and lacking that it was impossible to get the camera to work with it, so I went back to the store and spent 2 hours with a technician who was very kind, but who said he wasn't familiar with I-phones, so it took quite some time. It turned out one of the cameras did not have the ability to download recordings as promised. This is a problem when I'm out of the country for longer periods. However, the owner refused to refund me, so I just had to deal with that. The other camera worked when I left the store, but When I came back home, the camera stopped working again. It turned out the camera was dysfunctional so they offered me to come and change it. At this point, I resolved to have one of their technicians come out and set up the new camera for a fee of 150 USD, because I wanted to make sure, I didn't get the blame for it not working. He did, and everything seemed to work, but the same evening, it stopped working again, so I called back. After spending hours on the phone waiting, the technician was unable to help me. When I asked to bring the camera back and get a refund, the owner said: "What is your problem with money? Do you know how much time we have spent on you?". I asked if I could at least get the 150 USD I had paid for the technician to come out (he was there 20-30 minutes and I live 5 minutes walk from the store). I was now told: "You don't get nothing for nothing. The technician came out, and I had to pay his salary!". Yeah, but still the problem wasn't solved. CONCLUSION: I have one camera that works partly rand one camera that doesn't work, and I was refused any refund whatsoever.

This place is a total rip off. I went there thinking that it was a professional place with professional recommendations. They wind up selling me exactly what I went in for and told me this is a discounted price and a great product. After I got home I went online and found the same camera for 75percent less then I paid on 6 different websites. It was apples to apples exact same product. I called the next day and asked to speak to Bob the owner and and explained to the counter kid what my problem was and that I feel I was ripped off badly. He said he would have Bob call me back ASAP. That never happen he never returned call and I'm not surprised. BUY ONLINE DO NOT BUY FROM SPY STORE!!

I own a real estate storefront in the West Village. I was having trouble with other brokers approaching potential customers looking at my window and trying to steal my leads. In one of these incidents , I confronted the scumbag that was trying to steal, and it almost got violent. The other broker put up his fists to fight me, but I was able to defuse the situation and was able to protect myself legally. I stopped by the spy store to get cameras and microphones to have proof just in case these idiots were making a problem. I knew my staff and I could buy the equipment at Home Depot or on Amazon and install it our selves, but we were busy with our regular work. I thought that if I hired a professional, I would save time and avoid any learning curve mistakes. I also wanted to support other small businesses.  So, I went to the Spy Store and payed them $1250 to install one camera, a DVR and a microphone. They promised me it would be no problem for me to watch the videos from my laptop. They then asked for the complete payment upfront.  The first guy they sent was terrible. He drilled holes into my storefront but did not clean up the sawdust after he was finished. He stared at women walking by the store in a very awkward manner. He would stand at the front door and smoke cigarettes and the secondhand smoke will come inside my office. Despite his hour and a half long installation, the video feed still would not work. So, they sent someone else, and this person took multiple computers in my office without asking my permission and downloaded applications and other things. The told me that everything was finished, but it wasn't. I was still unable to access the video remotely. There are still numerous problems with the security video, which after more phone calls they came back to fix. The biggest problem is that the fast-forward function did not work and it it took well over 40 seconds to watch 60 seconds of footage in fast forward mode. When I called to complain about this, they said that was the best anyone could offer. When i mention that the fast forwarding could be quicker, in a similar manner to fast forwarding with YouTube and Netflix, instead of making things better, they responded rudely and unprofessionally by telling me in a sarcastic tone, that I should call Netflix and ask them how to do it . Then, after many phone calls, the Spy store said that I needed a cord to go from my DVR box to my computer. They told me that they don't have this cord and they refuse to finish the job. They also said it was OK to set up a microphone and listen to people on the street as long as you put up a small sign that says that you are audio recording them. My lawyers said that this is not true and that anyone who gets audio recorded can sue me for violating their privacy on the street. They gave me wrong legal information that could have potentially caused me or my business to get sued. I tried to save myself some time by hiring  professionals and I chose the wrong company. When I told them I was going to  write an honest bad review on yelp, they threatened to make up fake profiles and wright bad reviews about me to ruin my business. So, as it stands, I completely regret setting foot in THE SPY STORE. My personal experience could not have been any worse.

BUYER BEWARE! I paid them $650 for a button cam and $350 for an eyeglasses cam that they said were dependable, HD, and top-of-the-line but were actually cheaply made junk that broke down after one use. (Later I discovered that the same exact products are available on a Chinese website for $126 and $38.) And although the sales clerk promised me a full refund if either device malfunctioned, when I returned to the store I was told to see the fine print on my receipt that said: "Store credit only. No store credit after 7 days."

RIP OFF ARTISTS! BUYER BEWARE: The owners (father/son) can be as shady as a spy. If your not a "big fish" the customer respect is very low. After buying a product that didn't work at all... I went back many times to get a refund or an exchange for one that did work. Many months went by. After returning many, many times (unreasonable number of times) I kept getting the run around by father and staff. Everyone said the son had to look at it. Son was never in when I came by. I called the son and finally caught him at work. I explained IN DETAIL the problem with the product and I explained that I had come to the store many, many times and now the purchase date was wayyy beyond what would be accepted for return at any store. (But I tried!) He said "no problem. I'm sorry you've come back so many times. I will return your money and give you more $$ for the hassle you've been through.". I was SHOCKED. I thought, "gee, they really want their customers to be happy." The purchase date was very old at this point... but the truth was, the product NEVER WORKED once and I did try many times to get this resolved at the store, in person. But, I was very happy at the idea of getting my money back. When I came into the store at a time the son said he would be there (I called an hour before I came!!), he left the store and I got the run around again!!! UNBELIEVABLE!! I insisted the staff call son immediately - which he did. When I spoke this time to the Shady Son he denied ever offering money back on such an old purchase. WHAT?!?!! He said that he never would have promised a refund (which, to me, means the guy has early onset dementia or he's got a substance abuse problem... or he's just a chronic liar.). UNBELIEVABLE BAD SERVICE AT THIS STORE. BUYER BEWARE. Shady son offered to fix product but at this point, there was such bad faith and such a shady vibe with the owners... I wanted nothing to do with this 'shady as a spy' owner or his promises. BUYER BEWARE!

I absolutely LOVED this place! As a diamond dealer it is extremely important for me to have excellent security and camera. Not only did Spy Store take time in showing me different cameras while working in my budget but they also set it up. I have used them two times before and each time they are fantastic. I have a rental home and needed cameras to ensure tenants were not entering my basement. Also, while I was there I overheard a woman who called and the man Bob was telling her he sent her a camera and was explaining how she would know the difference. It sounded weird as he was describing it so I asked him why he didnt just say "grey wire" or black wire etc etc and he said she was blind. I was touched as to the level he went to in order to insure she would know the difference. I recommend these guys to everyone I know. Love them. To the reviewer Bryan A....I doubt the spy store did 63 reviews (as did the reviewer who also gave them great review and very comprehensive I might say) in order to give themselves a "positive" review. You, on the other hand give no detail of your experience and you have only done one review. It is you who looks suspect.

Avoid! This place will rip you off. Look elsewhere in town (Brickhouse, Spy Tech, etc) and you will find honest and competent salespeople who will get you the same products for far less $$. Sadly I am speaking from experience. Never again will I go here. And by the way it's fairly obvious the one "positive" "review" posted here was written by the store owners.
