I engaged Nancy McCann to analyze a potentially forged signature. The signature
I engaged Nancy McCann to analyze a potentially forged signature. The signature appeared clearly different to me, as well as to every colleague I showed it to, so I thought it would be an open and shut case. I paid the fee (about $1000), provided the documents, and the opinion came back as... inconclusive. I tried to follow up to ask for more information, but was told that Ms. McCann would not speak with me. Later, we had the original documents available for a brief window and asked Ms. McCann to review them. She was not available, and we ended up missing our window of opportunity. To add salt to the wound, she sent us a bill for that time anyway (time that she had not been available!) My lawyer was so embarrassed about this that she ended up paying Ms. McCann's bill herself rather than admit to me that she'd chosen a bad expert. Fast forward a bit. The civil case was closed (although it was still under investigation by regulators), and I tried following up again. The regulators were asking for information, so I needed to find out why the result was inconclusive and what it would take to get a conclusive result. At first, Ms. McCann said she would get back to me. But later, I got a snippy note from her administrative assistant, Beverly, saying that Ms. McCann "cannot expend any further time on this closed case" and that this was the "last and final time" they would reply to me. And that was that. I have nothing for my $1000 but lost opportunities and a snippy email.
