1. What this page is
NearbySpy lists publicly available information about private investigators and investigation firms across the United States. Some of these listings were created from public records without the investigator first opting in. This page explains exactly how an investigator (or someone authorized to act on their behalf) can ask us to remove their profile.
2. Who can request a removal
- The investigator listed on the profile, about their own listing.
- An authorized representative acting on the investigator's behalf (for example, an office manager, attorney, or agent).
- A family member of the investigator, if the investigator is deceased.
We do not process removal requests from competitors, third parties, or anyone who cannot reasonably verify a connection to the listed business.
3. How to request a removal
The process is designed to be quick and self-serve:
- Visit your profile page on NearbySpy and click the "Request removal" link, or go directly to
/remove-my-profile/<your-profile-id>. - Confirm ownership using one of these verification methods:
- A one-time link sent to the email address on file.
- A one-time code sent by text message to the phone number on file.
- A small verification token placed on your business website.
- A short upload of an identity document (driver's license, license card, or business registration) reviewed by a human.
- Once we verify your identity, your profile is removed automatically. You will receive a confirmation email with a reference number.
4. What if you can't verify automatically
If the email and phone number on your profile are no longer in use, or you do not control the listed website, you can submit a fallback form explaining the situation. A human admin will review it and make a decision, typically within 48 hours. We may follow up by email to confirm details before processing.
5. Our response time
We respond to verified takedown requests within 48 hours. Requests that require manual review (the fallback form) are reviewed in the order they arrive. If we need more information to process your request, we will email you directly.
6. What gets removed
When a removal is approved:
- Your profile page is replaced with a short notice stating the profile has been removed at the owner's request.
- The profile is excluded from our search results and from our sitemap.
- We retain a minimal audit record — your reference number, the date of the request, and the reason code you selected — so we can prove we honored the removal if it is ever questioned. This audit record is not displayed anywhere on the site.
7. What if your profile has already been claimed by someone else
If another verified investigator has already claimed and is actively managing the profile, we will not process a removal request through this form. This is an anti-impersonation safeguard. Contact support@nearbyspy.com directly so we can verify your identity before taking any action on a claimed profile.
8. How to escalate
If you believe a takedown request was wrongly denied, or if you need to escalate for any reason, you have several options:
- Email support@nearbyspy.com — we reply to escalations directly.
- File a complaint with your state Attorney General's consumer protection office.
- File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
9. Effective date and changes
This policy is effective May 25, 2026. We may update it from time to time. If we make material changes (changes that affect how removals work), we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of NearbySpy after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
